Must Haves in a Home
I loved this post from Hooked on Houses last week-“If you moved into a completely new, empty house and started over–and money was no object–what are 20 specific things you’d consider ‘must haves,’ from architectural details to furniture and accessories?”Ahhhhh my list is much longer than 20, but here's a basic idea:1) A claw-foot tub in at least one bathroom (but preferably all of them):2) A HUGE walk-in closet just for me!:3) Classic Architecture (Victorian preferred):4) Lots of windows with lots of light!:5) A great foyer/entry way:6) Fireplaces:7) A massive kitchen with white cabinets, Carerra marble tops (except on the butcher block which would be bamboo), Jadeite dishes, farmhouse sink, and stainless steel appliances (except for the white or maybe even polka dot AGA):8) Space in the backyard to create a formal garden:9) Space in the front yard to create an informal cottage garden:10) A room (maybe in an attic) to be used as an office/work space/nap space where I can make a big mess whenever I want to and no one will have to see it:11) Built-in bookcases & shelves for storage: You really can't ever have enough storage space can you?
12) A view like one of these:13) A chic laundry room:14) A hidden garage/carriage house (so it doesn't look like a garage with a house attached - ugh I hate those!!!) (you know, if we're imagining greatness then we might as well pretend that I have something like a vintage Aston Martin as well):I don't know, maybe this is more me: Moving on. . .
15) Front porch swing (an obvious must):16) Perhaps a "long and winding road" to lead me home:17) Hardwood floors so beautiful you could just kiss them!:18) Big huge white comfy slipcovered sofas:19) Fabulous oriental rugs:20) and Finally, tall ceilings big enough for a gorgeous four-poster beds:Oh I love this house! Don't you?!?!?
